While in office, we unintentionally end up doing three major mistakes which eventually affects our digestion. We eat late, we eat fast and we sit back till our next meal. The natural position of sitting is such that it compresses our abdominal area. That means lesser blood flow to the related organs including our GI track. Which ultimately leads bloating, gas formation, constipation etc. It also results in the formation of gut bacteria in a comparatively much lesser quantities.
Giving breaks between meals gives the digestive system a small window to rest. This also results in a uniform supply of energy levels to the body and helps in better digestion of fat. When we snack frequently, it disturbs an already on going digestion process and starts a parallel digestion process within the body. Due to this body is not able to digest all the food and starts storing fat in different parts of the body. This undigested food becomes the main cause of frequent headaches, low levels of energy, bloated feeling, gas problems, constipation etc.

Let's admit, some of us are blessed with a high metabolism and the blessed ones tend to get carried away at times leading them to an unintentional overeating. As we grow older our bowel habits change. The muscles in the digestive track get weakened. The food travels slowly in the GI track and body is not be able to digest the food as it use to be. Also, at this age, people tend to take a lot of medications for various health reasons. One common thing about these medications is that they end up causing constipation. For example, calcium channel blockers used for high blood pressure is very good for controlling high blood pressure but at the same time it is very constipation causing medication. Taking chemical based laxatives make the condition even worse. As they come with their own set of side effects on an already aging body.
